September is the month to go Organic, with the Soil Association’s Organic September campaign and with British Corner Shop, going organic is even easier than you think.
What is Organic September?
Organic September is a campaign to encourage people to eat, drink, use and choose organic products. Organic means working with nature, not against it, with products made using the most environmentally friendly farming and production methods possible. It guarantees the highest standards of animal welfare, restrictions on the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides by farmers, and forbids the use of GM crops and ingredients too.
With a more environmentally sustainable management of the land and natural environment, going organic is good for wildlife too! Farmers would be stuck without wildlife, including bees and earthworms, and organic farming depends on a diverse ecosystem to maintain soil fertility and to keep pests under control naturally. By maintaining hedgerows and woodland, along with rotating crops each season to keep soils fertile and disease free, farmers can encourage wildlife to flourish.
It’s food as nature intended, with little intervention. And the result is that organic food tastes loads better so you can enjoy fantastic flavours with a good conscience too.
How to get involved with Organic September?
If you want to ‘Go Organic’ but find the thought of changing all your everyday products too daunting, then why not make a pact to replace just one of your everyday items each month with an organic one instead? As well as food items, you could also replace beauty products, household cleaning goods, and even clothing. Make sure you take a look at our fantastic range of organic products for some inspiration on what you could change. And if you’re still unsure about the idea, the Soil Association has lots of handy tips and tricks on how you can shop well for less with organic products.
Did you know you can even go on an organic holiday? You can visit and stay at working organic farms, where you could find out more about organic farming, or choose a hotel that focuses on organic food in their restaurant. From cottages to yurts, there’s something for everyone on an organic holiday. And if you fancy getting your hands dirty, some farms will even let you get involved in working on the farm. Whichever kind of holiday you choose, you know that you will be able to enjoy delicious organic produce from the field, kitchen garden or orchard.
