As the year comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the top-selling items here at British Corner Shop that have flown off our shelves, across the world and into the homes of our wonderful customers. From cupboard staples to tasty treats, many have stood out as the top-sellers of the year.

From all of us at British Corner Shop, we would like to thank you for shopping with us and for choosing us to safely deliver your British goodies. Without further ado, let's take a look at the British foods that made the best-sellers list!

Tea & Biscuits

Yorkshire Tea came out on top this year as the best-selling tea brand. Clearly, their slogan 'Let's have a proper brew' rings true for many of you tea-lovers across the globe! Other Yorkshire Tea products such as their Bedtime Brew, Biscuit Brew and Yorkshire Gold blends have also been great sellers at BCS this year.

When it comes to biscuits, the best-selling British biscuit of 2022 was McVitie's Ginger Nuts. These fiery, crunchy biscuits are great for dunking in tea or coffee as they don't get soggy!

Runner up for best biscuit was McVitie's Jaffa Cakes. We know, we know, there's debate about whether these are cakes or biscuits... but what's for certain is that they're a delightful accompaniment to a cuppa, and that they're loved by Brits around the world.

Cupboard Essentials

The majority of our customers come to us when their cupboards are looking a bit bare, so that they can stock up on all those British essentials that offer a real taste of home. But what is it that expats miss from home the most...?

You probably guessed it - Heinz Beanz! Baked beans are a quintessentially British food that many non-Brits simply don't understand. There's nothing quite like a hearty breakfast of beans on toast to start your day right! We delivered Heinz Baked Beans to thousands of customers from hundreds of different countries around the world this year, and it makes us smile to know that it's thanks to us that so many of you are able to enjoy this British staple.

Marmite was another huge seller this year, as it has been for many previous years. This yeast extract spread is a controversial food that many love and many hate, but for the Marmite lovers among us, it's an absolute cupboard staple. Perfect on toast, in sandwiches, or to add a tasty tang to dishes like bolognese, stews, etc.

Other top-selling cupboard essentials this year have been Branston Pickle and Batchelors Mushy Peas.

Crisps

Walkers won the top spot for best-selling British crisp brand this year, to no-one's real surprise. With so many flavours and varieties to choose from, Walkers has been a reliable crisp brand for years here in the UK. But which flavours took the top spots?

Coming in as runner up is Walkers Prawn Cocktail - a crisp flavour that many customers have told us is tricky to find in other countries! Light and tangy, and suitable for vegetarians and vegans, too.

But the winner of the best-selling crisp of 2022 was Walkers Cheese & Onion. Open a packet of these and we can guarantee those around you wont be able to resist reaching over to pinch one - the smell and taste is just divine! Truly, really cheesey and a brilliant accompaniment to your lunchtime sandwich.

Roast Dinner Staples

It's a well-known fact that we Brits love a roast dinner; many of us have one every Sunday without fail! Therefore it makes total sense for two roast dinner essentials to be on our top-sellers list.

Paxo Sage & Onion Stuffing made the top 5 mark on the list. If you've ever eaten it you'll know why; it's such a quick and easy way to make up delicious stuffing balls that get lovely and crispy in the oven. Sage and Onion stuffing tastes amazing paired with any meat or a nut roast.

Bisto Gravy Granules also made the top 5 list, the finishing touch to any roast dinner! Did you know Bisto stands for 'Browns Instantly, Seasons and Thickens In One?' It's true - just add hot water and you've got an indulgent, flavourful gravy to pour over your roast, sausage and mash, toad in the hole, or whatever hearty British dish you're serving up.

Confectionery

Cadbury took the top spot for all the best-selling British chocolate products this year, which was no surprise to us considering how many of our customers tell us that British Cadbury chocolate tastes totally incomparable to chocolate elsewhere.

As well as the classic Cadbury Dairy Milk, other Cadbury best-sellers include Cadbury Crunchie, Cadbury Giant Buttons, Cadbury Twirl and - our 2nd highest selling product for 2022 - Cadbury Flake!

In the top spot for best-selling sweet of the year is the iconic, the adorable, the delicious Marks and Spencer Percy Pig. We thought we already knew how much of a fanbase Percy has, but the way these sweets flew off the shelf year-round really proved it!

And the top spot goes to...

Looking at both the top-sellers lists for our UK Warehouse and our EU Warehouse, the number one product was the same for each. We re-introduced this product this year after briefly having to stop selling it, and clearly our customers missed this British staple based on how quickly they flew off the shelves!

The best-selling product of 2022 is: Crumpets!

Being able to deliver crumpets to hundreds of countries around the world is something we're massively proud of. Crumpets are such a breakfast-time staple in a British household, especially when absolutely slathered in butter, honey, jam, Marmite or whatever you choose to top them with. The fact that so many Brits and British food lovers across the globe are able to indulge in a buttery crumpet thanks to British Corner Shop makes our hearts happy.

Crumpets are freezable, meaning our customers will often buy in bulk and keep their crumpets in the freezer until they're ready to eat them.

If you're in the EU, you can enjoy delightful, light and fluffy crumpets from M&S. For many countries outside of the EU, we can offer crumpets from classic British bakery brand Warburtons.
